  • June 1947: Joined C.T. Bowring Steamships Ltd., London, England
  • 1949: 2nd Mate Foriegn Going Certificate - Leith Nautical College
  • 1951: 1st Mate Foriegn Going Certificate - Leith Nautical College
  • 1953: Master Foriegn Going Certificate #71390 - Leith Nautical College
